Testimonial for Haven Hills Farm & Our Dog Dahlia

Our family received our Colorado Mountain Dog, Dahlia, from Haven Hills Farm in Shelbyville, TN, in March of this year 2025 and we couldn’t imagine our homestead without her. From the very beginning, Dahlia’s gentle and playful nature was a perfect fit for our three young kids. She’s not only loving and affectionate, but also incredibly loyal and protective of our land, always alerting us to unexpected visitors or nearby animals.

As a livestock guardian, she has exceeded our expectations. She integrated seamlessly with our older male and female Great Pyrenees dogs within just a few days. Now larger than them, her demeanor remains kind, watchful, and full of joyful energy. Dahlia came to us already well-trained and eager to follow direction, which made the transition easy and smooth.

We had dahlia out today behind the house while the kids were in the pool. She has excellent recall. This breed is unbelievable. When I was a kid we bred German shepherds, had Dobermans and Akitas and of my brother bred Argentinian dogos. I don’t think I’ve ever been more impressed with a breed since getting her.

Fern

On our farm we raise a flock of around 150-200 laying hens year-round in open pasture land. For almost 10 years now we have had two wonderful pyrenees/anatolian to be our guardians of our pasture-raised flock. We knew it was time to begin to think of incorporating another guardian dog into the mix, and after researching we found Haven Hills Farm! Daniel and family were so welcoming and patient with us as we asked my questions and visited to see who of the litter would be a good fit for us and our operation. Daniel was informative and honest when it came to any questions we had on the colorado mountain dog breed, and the animals that the litter was exposed to and living with. Fern (female) has been a great addition to the farm. She is gentle and was able to pick up on things quickly with the help of our other guardian dogs. Of course we have had the excitement of puppy issues that come with bringing in a young dog into the mix of our daily routine, but most days now that she is older, Fern can be found snoozing amongst the flock she guards during the day and alert throughout the night with the other livestock dogs. She is still learning the ropes everyday as she gets older and wiser. We are looking forward to her continued growth here.

Beau

We got our 8 month old puppy Beau from Haven Hill Farms in May 2025 to be a companion for our Maremma Sheepdog. We were looking for an easy going breed that could be an LGD but also friendly with visitors and not a lot of barking. He’s very gentle and easy going, great with our young children, tiny kittens and leaves the horses alone. He lives on 20 acres with an invisible fence system and respects it 100%. He is great for the vet and the groomer and is one of their favorites! We had a great experience working with Haven Hill Farms, I’ve texted with questions and always get a quick response! We couldn’t be happier with Beau!

Indie

We couldn't be happier with the incredible Colorado Mountain Dog we brought home from Haven Hills Farm. He is truly everything we needed and more.

He has a remarkable blend of intelligence, curiosity, and a calm, patient demeanor. We lovingly call him "Uncle Indie" because he's so gentle with other dogs, especially puppies. He plays carefully with our tiny Border Collie puppies, using the softest bites and seemingly endless patience.

From day one, his natural instincts as a livestock guardian were evident. He's huge, brave, and his deep, intimidating bark makes him an incredible protector at night. It's clear that Haven Hills Farm's regular nightly perimeter checks provided him with the perfect foundation. We were amazed at how well-behaved he was; he knew his "sit" command and was walking on a leash with us just an hour after leaving his home at the farm.

Despite his serious job, he is a giant, human-friendly teddy bear who still believes he's a lap dog. He absolutely adores children, which we credit to the wonderful socialization he received at Haven Hills Farm. He just loves to lean into you and be a part of the family at all times.

Enzo

He’s super friendly with kids, loves to play with other dogs, and is friendly with people. If strangers enter the house he gets defensive but not aggressive (a little growl and then just sniffs them). He’s protective over us, for example when we go stay at the cabin he stays up most of the time making sure everyone is safe,
